INTRODUCTION

The incidence of depressive disorder is one of the highest among the population and increases yearly. The distimic disorder is a form of chronic depression the prevalence of which ranges from 3 – 4 %.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non invasive technique to stimulate nerve cells in determined parts of the brain. This is a complementary or coadjuvant therapy to pharmacologic treatment in severe depression and is used as an alternative to electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in patients with resistant depression.

Cuba, 2006.

Summary:

The present study is a comparative analysis of three stage II- III clinical assays with the aim of evaluating the antiasthenic efficacy of three different presentations of Fost Print, a tonifying complement made of:  vitamins, minerals, amino acids, carbohydrates, fresh royal jelly, dry extract ginseng and propolis. These three presentations are: the former Fost Print Plus in 10 ml vials, the new Fost Print Plus in 15 ml vials and the new Fost Print Sport in 15ml vials, all of them taken orally.

Twenty of these vials, taken one a day, were administered to Cuban citizens in three different clinical assays; the first two were carried out in men and women resident in the city of Havana. The first one included 25 volunteers of both sexes, who were given the presentation of the former Fost Print Plus 10 ml. In the second one included 43 volunteers of both sexes, from a population sample comparable to the previous one, who took the new Fost Print Plus 15 ml. The third one included 30 sportsmen and sportswomen from the High Performance Camagüey's Sports centre. They took the new Fost Print Sport 15 ml/day, the treatment was administered under supervision in the High Performance Camagüey's Sports centre for 20 consecutive training days.

A visual analogical scale for the evaluation of energy levels was used in all three studies as a main variable of efficacy.

-In the first group (the old Fost Print Plus 10 ml/day) the energy level before treatment was considered to be high or very highly in only 4 % of the volunteers. After the treatment, 40.9 % of the volunteers presented an energy level which was considered as high or very high.

- In the second group (the new Fost Print Plus 15 ml/day) 6.97 % of the volunteers considered their energy level to be high or very high before the treatment. After the treatment, 93.3 % of the volunteers considered that their energy level was high or very high.

-In the third group (new Fost Print Sport 15 ml/day taken in consecutive days) the energy level before the treatment was considered to be high or very highly in only 6.7 % of the volunteers. After the treatment, 100 % of the volunteers considered that their energy level was high or very high.

Aim: To evaluate the energizing, tonifying and antiasthenic effect of the former Fost Print Plus 10 ml, the new Fost Print Plus 15 ml and of the new Fost Print Sport 15 ml in different populations: top athletes and non sportsmen.

Study design: Comparative study in three stage II- III controlled clinical trials.

Volunteers: Three different groups: the first one included 25 volunteers of both sexes. The second one included 43 volunteers of both sexes, with a population sample comparable to the previous one. The third one, 30 sportsmen from the High Performance Camagüey's Athletic Centre in Camagüey's.
